Assistant Professor in Learning Sciences and Technologies Academic Group

  • The Learning Sciences and Technologies Academic Group (LST) at the National Institute of Education in Singapore is an interdisciplinary academic group that focuses on understanding learning in social-cultural contexts with the goal of designing and integrating learning environments and technologies. We aim to provide teachers with experience in future-ready learning designs and technology-enhanced pedagogies, and prepare them for the real-world 21st Century classrooms and their professional development journeys. LST is committed to bridging learning and instructional design, and connecting theory and practice through a variety of methodologies, including reflection-in-action, action research, design experiments and ethnography for the advancement of research and teaching. Our goal is to enable teachers to become designers for learning and teaching and active contributors in a reflective community of practice.

    The LST Academic Group seeks applications for the position of Assistant Professor.  This is an excellent opportunity for outstanding scholars to engage in a dynamic department to advance our programmatic and research goals.

    • Candidates who possess an earned doctoral degree in education or other relevant social science fields and specialize in educational technology or learning sciences, are invited to apply for this tenurable position. 
    • Candidates with expertise in one of the following areas: Digital literacies in communities, educational settings and online worlds, game-based learning, learning analytics, computer-supported collaborative learning, eLearning, instructional design, emerging technologies (e.g., AR/VR, IoT) for learning, or other expertise in learning sciences. 
    • Candidates with experience in working with schools, pre- and in-service teachers and key school personnel are preferred. 
    • Candidates who are able to translate educational theories into practice that are appropriate for the relevant school contexts. 
    • Candidates who show evidence of a defined research agenda, scholarly activities, and successful teaching.
  • The successful candidate is expected to 

    • teach courses in initial teacher education programmes, in the area of educational technology and/or classroom management, and supervise student teachers during their field experience. 
    • teach masters and/or doctoral programmes, supervise graduate students’ theses or critical inquiry projects, develop and/or maintain a significant programme of research that is relevant to the strategic research agenda of the National Institute of Education.
    • be actively involved in the professional development of teachers and school leaders from the Singapore Ministry of Education. 
    • be actively involved in conducting funded research collaboratively in the Learning Sciences and Technologies.
    • be prepared to undertake administrative duties, such as coordinating and reviewing courses/programmes, in addition to their teaching and research roles.
