Research Assistant (English Language and Literature Academic Group) [OER 05/17 KYH]

  • The National Institute of Education invites suitable applications for the position of Research Assistant on a 12-month contract at the English Language and Literature Academic Group

    Project Title: Syntactic resonance in Child-Caretaker Interaction and Children’s Peer talk

    Project Introduction: Inspired by John Du Bois’ proposal of  Dialogic syntax and employing the tools of Conversation Analysis and Corpus Linguistics, the current study aims to investigate whether and how the interactional patterns in bilingual parent-child interaction as well as children’s peer talk influences the emergence of grammatical routines in child speech.

    • A Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in linguistics, applied linguistics or relevant fields
    • Trained in Conversation Analysis
    • Good communication skills in English
    • Good command of Mandarin would be desirable
    • Data collection, including visiting research participants’ home and video-recording interaction
    • Transcribing video data
    • Analyzing transcripts and video-recording
    • Build an annotated bibliography on research on children’s interaction and language development
