Research Assistant (English Language and Literature Academic Group) [OER 09/17 CYL]

  • The National Institute of Education invites suitable applications for the position of Research Assistant on a 35-month contract at the English Language and Literature Academic Group.

    Project Title: Impacts of a socio-cognitive and motivation-and-learning (SCML) approach on students’ writing quality and reception of self-directed and collaborative learning

    Project Introduction: The research project seeks to 1) to identify and investigate any differences in the compositions produced by primary four students under the traditional methods versus a teaching programme based on the SCML approach; and 2) to examine how the students’ motivation to learn and their reception to self-directed learning and collaborative learning are affected by the availability (or not) of ICT support based on the SCML approach.

     

  • Candidate should:

    • Have a Bachelor’s (honours) or Master’s degree in applied linguistics, psychology, education, or a related field
    • Be competent in AMOS, SPSS, SALT, and Nvivo
    • Be experienced in conducting literature review and writing research articles
    • Have excellent written and oral communication skills
    • Possess excellent project management and organizational skills
    • Be familiar with the Singapore education system
    • Be able to work and communicate with people of different age and ethnic groups, including teachers and primary school students
    • Be good at multi-tasking and problem solving
    • Be able to work independently and in a team
    • Collect data (e.g., class observations and compositions) and record field notes
    • Conduct classroom-based intervention research
    • Assist in the coding and analysis of qualitative and quantitative data
    • Assist in the preparation of publications, research reports, and conference presentations
    • Liaise with research participants and other stakeholders
    • Perform other tasks as assigned by the Principal Investigator and Co-Principal Investigator
