Research Assistant (Office of Education Research) [NRF2016-SOL001-003]

  • The National Institute of Education invites suitable applications for the position of Research Assistant on a 36-month contract at the Office of Education Research.

    Project Title: Optimizing pre-schoolers’ working memory and numerical processing capabilities

    Project Introduction: The project aims to understand (a) how early mathematical skills develop and (b) how variation in childhood parenting practices influences children’s development in working memory and numeracy. Using both behavioural and neuroimaging methods, we will collect cross-sectional and longitudinal data from a large sample of preschool children. The information generated will be used to help identify and develop intervention for children with difficulties in early numeracy.

  • Essential

    • Bachelor’s degree in psychology or related field (e.g. neuroscience, biology, social work, etc.)
    • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
    • Excellent organizational skills and able to work within given deadlines
    • Knowledge of statistical methods
    • Prior relevant experience in psychological or educational research (e.g. data collection, data management)
    • Able to communicate well with parents and children

    Preferred

    • Bachelor’s degree with honours in psychology
    • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision
    • Communication with key stakeholders, teachers, parents, academic and research staff
    • Assist in data collection, data processing, data management and statistical analyses
    • Conduct training workshops for new full and part-time research assistants
    • Efficient organization of all project documentation
    • Perform other tasks as required by the Principal Investigators
