Research Assistant (Office of Education Research) [WPS 07/17]

  • The National Institute of Education (NIE) invites suitable applications for the position of Research Assistant on a contract until 28 February 2018 at the Office of Education Research (OER).

    Project Title: NIE Working Paper Series

    Project Introduction: The NIE Working Paper Series is intended as a means of regular communication between the mutually dependent spheres of theory and practice in education. Forward- and outward-looking, the Working Papers are conceptualized with local issues at hand, and will survey international and local states of thought to assemble a principled response appropriate for our context.

    The intended audiences for this publication are policymakers, school leaders and practitioners with an interest in how theoretical and empirical perspectives inform practice. The Working Papers are published in a highly readable style, and appended with an expanded exposition and comprehensive reference for readers who want to know more.

    Applicants with relevant qualifications and work experience are encouraged to apply. The successful applicant will work with the Assistant Dean (Research Communications), OER to help generate and develop publications, and communication strategies.

    • A Bachelor’s degree in Sociology (preferred), English Language/Literature or Communications
    • Strong critical thinking abilities
    • Strong interest in education research and commitment to improve Singapore education
    • Ability to read and understand educational research
    • Excellent written and communication skills
    • Displays initiative and resourcefulness
    • Able to work independently
    • At least 2 years of professional work experience, ideally in positions in the field of education and/or research analysis
    • Able to start immediately
  • Successful applicant is required to engage in the following:

    • Prepare Working Papers that synthesise local and international research around specific research areas to a variety of audiences/stakeholders, including the Ministry of Education (MOE)
    • Assist in the administration and management of Working Papers in NIE/OER
    • Prepare written reports to convey findings to a variety of audiences/stakeholders
    • Analyze data and synthesize information from education research and related fields
    • Contribute to the strategic development of research communication efforts in NIE initiatives undertaken by the Assistant Dean (Research Communications)
    • Undertake other duties which may, from time to time, be requested by the Assistant Dean (Research Communications)
