  • The National Institute of Education invites suitable applications for the position of Research Assistant on a 4-month contract at the Psychological Studies Academic Group

    Project Title: Pre-service Teachers’ Perception of Student Centred Learning

    Project Introduction:  This study will investigate the beliefs and perceptions held by student teachers regarding student-centred learning.  We will gather information on student teacher perception and beliefs in the beginning and at the end their Teaching Practicum stint through interviews.

    Results from this study will provide insight into how student teachers’ prior experiences in the classroom have influenced their beliefs and perceptions.  It will also look at how the training they have received in NIE as well as during their Teaching Practicum has further shaped their beliefs and perceptions.

    • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline (e.g. Education, Psychology or Social Sciences).  A Master’s degree in any of the above fields will be an added advantage.  
    • Prior relevant experience in conducting interviews and/or working with teachers in Singapore schools
    • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
    • Strong organizational skills and able to work independently to meet work deadlines
    • Interest in education and/or educational research
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
  • The key role of the Research Assistant will be to assist the Principal Investigator (PI) in various tasks to meet the key objectives of this project.

    • Conduct literature reviews
    • Arrange and conduct interviews with student teachers 
    • Process and analyze data from interviews
    • Preparation of administrative documents and academic reports
    • Perform other assignments as determined by the PI
