Working in NIE

    Leave

    Staff members are eligible for 14 to 42 days of Annual Leave depending on the scheme of service, level of appointment and length of service.

    Other leave types which staff members are eligible for, where applicable, include Marriage Leave, Maternity Leave, Paternity Leave, Childcare Leave, Compassionate Leave, Staff Development Leave, etc.

    Medical Benefits and Insurance Scheme

    All full-time Employees are eligible for medical and insurance coverage under the Flexible Benefits Scheme (FlexBen@NTU). FlexBen@NTU is a flexible benefits programme that allows staff to have a degree of flexibility in selecting the benefits which meet their needs.

    Training and Development

    The University believes that its staff members are its most important asset. It values the contributions made by each and every staff member to the University and strongly believes in helping each staff member to develop to his/her fullest potential through continual training and development.

    The University may send its staff for courses organized by external training agencies or for in-house courses. Management and Corporate Services Officers may apply for partial sponsorship of course fees to pursue part-time diploma and degree courses.

    Academic and research staff members may be granted Staff Development Leave (SDL) with financial support to attend conferences, courses, research-related visits and Fellowship/Exchange programmes, subject to the provisions in the SDL schemes.


    Welfare

    Medical and Psychological Wellness

    The University has a medical centre on campus currently run by a private medical group, Fullerton Healthcare Group @ Gethin-Jones. It is an outpatient clinic equipped to provide a full range of general practitioner care for students, staff members and their families. Dental services are also available at the medical centre.

    The University, in line with the practices of other universities and with reference to broader societal development, encourages all employees to take a proactive stance on self-care as well as caring for colleagues. Hence, as part of the suite of employee wellness programmes, a dedicated Employee Counselling Service (ECS) has been set up on campus for the convenience of all employees. Staff members may also make an appointment with the NIE Wellness Centre for psychological services and counselling.

    Campus Recreation and Wellness (CReW) 

    Campus Recreation and Wellness (CReW) aims to build a collegial and active campus community, while fostering a vibrant work, live and play environment, and enriching campus life. 

    CReW offers a variety of activities such as social, healthy lifestyle wellness events, and organises Inter-school games for all staff (employees) of NTU/NIE. This effort not only enhances the vibrancy of campus life but also promotes social integration of NTU/NIE employees. 

    Sports & Recreation Centre

    The University has a Sports & Recreation Centre with a wide array of sports facilities, including an Olympic sized swimming pool, outdoor running track, tennis courts and gymnasium.     Canteens, Food Court and Fast Food Outlets

    Child Care Centre

    The University has a Child Care Centre which is conveniently located within the Yunnan Garden Campus. It is housed in 2 spacious bungalows and boasts a large and well-equipped outdoor playground. The centre takes pride in conducting regular parent-centre activities to foster a strong collaborative partnership with its parents. It provides childcare services (from Nursery 2 to Kindergarten 2) specially to staff members only. Staff members may apply for the enrolment of their children who are between the ages of 3 and 6 years old in the Centre, at the prevailing enrolment fees.     Campus Clubhouse

    Transport / Parking

    Private Chartered Buses

    A large number of staff in the University commutes to and from work by private chartered buses by paying a monthly fee. These buses travel to most parts of Singapore along designated routes with designated pick-up points.

    Service 179 & 199

    The nearest train stations to NTU are Boon Lay (EW27) and Pioneer (EW28) on the East West Line operated by SMRT Corporation.

    From Boon Lay station, make your way to the adjacent bus interchange. SBS Transit Ltd, a public bus company, provides 3 services, 179, 179A & 199, between Boon Lay Bus Interchange and the University. 179A provides seasonal weekday short trips supplementing Service 179.

    NTU Shuttle Bus Service

    Three fare free Shuttle Bus Routes serve the campus. Bus routes 'Campus Loop–Blue' and ‘Campus Loop–Red’ circle NTU with ‘Campus Rider’ venturing off-campus to and from Pioneer MRT station (in front of Blk 649A).     Parking

    There are six car parks in the NIE campus which are open to staff, students and visitors.  A flexible staff parking scheme is available for all full time employees of NIE. A key feature of this scheme is that you do not have to pay a fixed monthly fee but pay for what you use. As a registered flexible staff parking scheme user, you will be granted access to any of the 4 car parks under this scheme even if the car park display sign indicates "FULL". NIE's flexible staff parking scheme rate is currently capped at $2.50 per day. 

    Library

    All staff members have access to the NTU and NIE Libraries, which have a wide range of books, journals and publications. The NIE Library and Information Services Centre is the largest education library in Singapore and provides resources to support the teaching, learning and research programmes of the Institute.  It also reaches out to meet the needs of the education professionals in the Ministry of Education, schools and other related organisations. 

    Retail, Postal and Banking Facilities
