Welcome to the Office for Faculty Affairs & the NIE Academic Groups
Each academic staff of National Institute of Education (NIE) is associated and anchored with one of 12 Academic Groups (AGs). The AGs are the delivery agencies for undergraduate, graduate and professional learning courses in the resident programmes for teacher-education and teacher-development.
The AGs work closely with the Office of Teacher Education (OTE) and Graduate Studies and Professional Learning (GPL), with relevance and responsiveness, a high standard of teaching excellence and quality assurance, and using a values-anchored and values-centric approach, in primarily assuaging the needs of the Ministry of Education for well-prepared school teachers and school leaders, and also that of other stakeholders.
Additionally, the AGs provide research direction for each subject discipline and accomplish research to create knowledge and impact, which influence educational practice and policy. Academic staff may also work on research with other research centres within NIE and beyond.
The Dean for Faculty Affairs (Dean, FA) works collaboratively with the 12 Heads of AGs and the NIE Human Resource Department and has an over-arching mission to nurture, galvanise and energise all staff to make significant contributions in their daily effort for teaching, research and service excellence.
The Office of Faculty Affairs (OFA) is committed to providing a nurturing environment that allows faculty members to realise their full potential as a professor, a lecturer or a research staff, within the governing university policies. In this regard, the OFA oversees academic staff affirmation, recruitment, appointment and re-appointment, annual faculty performance evaluation, promotion and tenure, and the development of the next generation of leaders and supports institutional initiatives to enhance communication, mentoring, career development, and faculty policy changes.
I invite you to visit the websites of the 12 AGs to learn more about their exciting programmes, student life and accomplishments, teaching and research excellence, and well-qualified, vibrant, committed and gifted staff that make NIE Singapore, the Institute of Distinction, today and beyond. Make NIE your choice for lifelong learning and career actualisation.
