Asian Languages and Cultures Academic Group (ALC), National Institute of Education, Nanyang Technological University, comprises of three divisions: namely, the Chinese, Malay and Tamil Divisions. The three divisions offer diverse programmes in their respective disciplines, ranging from Bachelor of Arts (Education), Diploma in Education to Postgraduate Diploma in Education programmes (Primary and Secondary).
In addition, the divisions offer both Masters and PhD (by dissertation) as well as Master of Education (by coursework) programmes. ALC as a whole also plans to offer more in-service courses catering to the needs of ethnic mother tongue teachers. Our mission is to produce excellent teachers devoted to ethnic mother tongue education for the nation. ALC strives to lay a firm academic foundation for ethnic mother tongue teachers and equip them with practical pedagogical and IT skills as well as up-to-date knowledge in education research. It also seeks to work in close collaboration with Chinese, Malay or Indian organisations for the promotion of ethnic mother tongue education and cultures.
