Abstract:

The talk presents topics and issues in two on-going and inter-related research projects on precarious work in the construction and long haul fishing industry in/ going through Singapore and involving migrant men from Southeast and South Asia respectively. The complex issues and inter-relations between precarious work, failed migration, masculinity, and transnationalism will be explored in this talk. 

The speaker:

Dr Yea is Assistant Professor, NIE. Prior, she held a Visiting Fellow position in the Geography department at NUS; as well as Lecturer and Senior Research Fellow positions at RMIT University. She is currently working on three projects related broadly to issues of vulnerable and failed migrations and anti-trafficking in Southeast Asia. She has an edited volume on Human Trafficking in Asia and a monograph on Women Trafficking in Korea due to be published this year (both with Routledge).
