About the Topic

Addressees will gain an understanding of the importance in motivating and engaging students from the lens of Mind, Brain, and Education science. This is beneficial for the sustainability of higher order thinking skills. The focus of the talk will be to increase awareness, understanding and application of Mind, Brain, and Education Science in relation to student motivation and engagement strategies.

About the Speakers

Joseph Olan is a secondary level Humanities Coach/Student Engagement Specialist from Houston, Texas, USA. He was a teacher for six years and has received several awards, including Teacher of the Year in 2009 and 2013. He also participated in the Texas Teachers Teaching American History federal grant which allowed him to go on several study trips throughout the United States. As a 2014-2015 Awardee of the Fulbright Distinguished Awards in Teaching Program, Joseph is in Singapore from January to May 2015. During the program Joseph will collaborate, provide workshops, presentations, and co-teach. His capstone project in Singapore will center on Mind, Brain, and Education Science and using the latest research in neuroscience to inform educators with a focus on motivating and engaging 21st century learners.
