Dear Graduate Student,

NIE Graduate Student Day on 20 Sep 2014

Please mark your calendars!  On the 20 Sep 2014 (Saturday), we will be having our 3rd Graduate Student Day (GSD) (http://niegsd2014.wordpress.com/).  Please consider joining us, ideally as a participant on the 3 Minute Thesis competition (3MT), or by presenting a poster, or by giving a paper.  Or at the least, come, register and see what your peers are working on.

Participating in the GSD in some way needs to be welcomed as a milestone in your life as a graduate student of NIE.  It is important that you give yourself an opportunity to share your research and scholarly insights with the larger community.

I write to you, as your Sub Dean, together with Mr Heikal Yusope who chairs the organizing committee this year, to encourage you to put yourself out there and participate in this GSD.

We have a website running, where you can register to participate (http://niegsd2014.wordpress.com/registration/) and also submit a proposal/abstract for the 3MT, poster or paper presentation (http://niegsd2014.wordpress.com/call-for-papers/).  Our guest speaker this year is Professor Peter Looker.

Registration is free, and meals are provided.  And there will be a lucky draw with attractive prizes for those who register and turn up.  But that is surely not the real reason why we want you to join us. Scholarship needs a community to nurture it – a community constituted by scholars like yourselves  to find support and mutual encouragement.  We cannot do this without you.  We need your presence, and your voice.

We need it now.  Come and form this scholarly body, which is your own.

A/P Jude Chua Soo Meng

Sub Dean (HDR, GPL), NIE
