Events Details

Participants will be provided an overview of current state of the science in ecotoxicological lab-based experiments using local green mussels and other invertebrates. Hands-on activities include experimental protocols in laboratory-based bioassays using heavy metals as pollutants. Organismal responses to pollutants will be observed, including molecular, biochemical (blood biochemistry) and cellular biomarker assays, physiological assays, and lethal toxicity bioassays. Short 24h experiments will be conducted, followed by data collection and analyses exercises. Finally, participants will present the results of their experiments in a mini-science symposium. The workshop will also include post-workshop support by facilitating teachers in students’ project work at schools.
