The aims and objectives of teaching literature and the place of literature in curriculum. An overview of the developments of modern Malay and Indonesian literature. The general methods and techniques of teaching literature. The knowledge and skills of teaching modern Malay and Indonesian novel, short story, poetry and drama/play at secondary schools. Evaluation and testing of modern literature.

The module prepares the pre-service teachers to teach traditional Malay literature in secondary schools.  An overview of the main features and developments of traditional Malay literature. The knowledge and skills of the teaching of traditional Malay prose and poetry. The principles, methods and techniques of teaching of selected classical genres and texts. Appreciation, evaluation and testing of traditional Malay literature.
