INS2158 - Popular Biotechnology – Molecular Diagnosis

  • One of the applications of key technology derived from life science research is biotechnology. The influence of biotechnology is evident by its increasing vital roles in the improvement of the quality of our life in food production, environmental protection, health care, pharmaceuticals and medicine. Molecular Diagnosis is amongst one of the popular applications of biotechnology. In this current climate of environmental changes and emerging diseases, it is imperative for biology teachers to be familiar with the latest advancements so that their professional practices can stay abreast of science trends.

  • By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

    • Understand various molecular approaches for medical diagnosis
    • Link molecular diagnosis to Infectious Diseases, the extension topic of H2 Biology syllabus
  • This is a three-hour fully online course. The course will be opened for a week and registered participants may log-on to the course multiple times during the week that the course is offered. In this course, participants will learn the general concepts of molecular diagnosis, and a couple of popular molecular approaches used in medical diagnosis and research. Additionally, participants are required to read the papers provided to broaden the knowledge scope. In an online discussion forum, they can interact with the lecturer to clarify any doubts

    Upon confirmation, payment is required for all courses. Payment should only be made after the course placement letter has been sent to participants to confirm the application. Cancellations/withdrawals are not allowed. However, a replacement may be sent to attend the same course.

    NIE will acknowledge receipt of the application form through email within one week. The course placement letter will be emailed to applicants who have been successfully placed in a course and upon course confirmation.
