IPD0150 - Fieldwork and Assessment in the GCE O-Level Geography Syllabus

  • This two-day practical workshop provides teachers with knowledge and understanding of how to conduct and assess fieldwork necessary to teach the GCE O-Level Geography Syllabus.

    It will specifically address meeting the requirements GCE O-Level Geography Syllabus, Assessment Objective AO1 (Knowledge: demonstrate knowledge of relevant fieldwork techniques – identification of geographical question, sequence of fieldwork inquiry, primary and secondary data collection methods: Paper 1, Section A- Geographical Investigations)

    Each day will consist of two parts: a half-day fieldwork experience; plus a half-day classroom workshop, exploring how to apply the fieldwork experience to the GCE O-Level Geography Examination.

    1. To understand the inquiry approach to fieldwork, as outlined in the GCE O-Level Geography syllabus
    2. To understand the relevance of fieldwork within the GCE O-Level Geography syllabus, especially the examination
    3. To understand the importance of students undertaking fieldwork to respond effectively to the requirements of the GCE O-Level Geography examination
    4. To learn and understand the options and logistics of conducting fieldwork at sites relevant to Coasts and Global Tourism
    5. To understand how to apply field data collected from these sites to respond to the requirements of the Geography O-Level examination
  • DAY 1:
    8.00am – 12 noon Classroom - Fieldwork in the GCE O - Level Geography Syllabus
    12 noon – 1.00 pm Lunch
    1.30pm - 2.00 pm Travel to Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve (NIE to organise)
    2.00pm – 5.00 pm Fieldwork at the Reserve: exploring and seeing the possibilities
    5.00pm – 5.30 pm Return travel to NIE (NIE to organise)
    DAY 2
    7.30am Meet at MacRitchie Reservoir Park
    7.30am - 11.00am Fieldwork at the Reservoir: exploring and seeing the possibilities
    11.00am – 12 noon Travel to NIE (NIE to organise transport)
    12 noon – 1.00 pm Lunch
    1.00pm - 4.00 pm Classroom - Applying Fieldwork to the Examination in the GCE O-Level Syllabus

    *Note: NIE reserves the right to change or cancel the course due to unforeseen circumstances

    • MOE Participants - $172.20 (inclusive of GST and $1 copyright fee).
    • Non MOE Participants - $1,285.00 (inclusive of GST and $1 copyright fee)

    Tea refreshments will be provided during the workshop.

    Applicants will be notified of the results of their applications via e-mail.

    Upon confirmation, payment is required for all courses. Payment should only be made after the course placement letter has been sent to participants to confirm the application. Cancellations/withdrawals are not allowed. However, a replacement may be sent to attend the same course. 

    Payment through GIRO/IFAAS

    NIE will proceed to invoice the respective schools, and they can  make payment through GIRO or IFAAS. The amount payable should be credited into the NIE bank account number 518-041272-001.

    Payment by Cheque

    Please submit the cheque together with the application form. Cheque should be made payable to “National Institute of Education” and participant(s)’ name and course(s) clearly indicated on the reverse of the cheque.

    Notification

    NIE will acknowledge receipt of the application form through email within one week. The course placement letter will be emailed to applicants who have been successfully placed in a course and upon course confirmation.

    Instructor

    Please note that NIE reserves the right to replace an instructor for a course if the lecturer is unable to teach the course due to unforeseen circumstances. No refund of the course fee will be made to participants.
