IPS0014 - Positive Education for Schools & Teachers

  • The goal of every educator is that their students be happy, learn well and flourish. When students are educated for both learning and skills for attaining positive emotion or happiness as in positive psychology interventions, they are said to have received “positive education” (Seligman, Ernst, Gillham, Reivich, & Linkins, 2009). The fundamental goal of positive education is to promote positive mental health within the school community (Norrish et al., 2013) by building character strengths, virtues, resilience, grit, positive emotions, engagement, relationships, meaning and accomplishment. The school may have formal classes in positive psychology, infuse positive psychology concepts into academic lessons, and create a positive school environment that foster the gaining of competence and confidence, rather than correcting the wrong in students. Students whose psychological well-being are enhanced would be able to learn better as they are happy and positive. This course offers the framework of positive psychology as background and introduces participants to strength-based interventions and school practices in positive education.

  • At the end of the course, participants would be able to:

    1. Understand positive education and its applications to school setting;
    2. Describe positive psychology interventions;
    3. Demonstrate positive communication skills.

    2. Positive psychology & well-being; Positive Youth Development (45 mins)
    3. Personal Skills training: Being happy, thinking positively, speaking a positive language (45 mins)
    4. E-learning: videos with online quiz (60 mins) before lesson
    5. Assessment: 45 mins
  • Group and individual presentation of proposal on personal action plan to have positive education: (i) in class (ii) in school (iii) at home.

    Please note that participants will be charged upon registration and no refund will be given for absentees. Upon confirmation, payment is required. Payment should only be made after the course placement letter has been sent to participants to confirm the registration. Cancellations/withdrawals are not allowed. However, a replacement may be sent to attend the same course.


    Payment through GIRO/IFAAS


    NIE will proceed to invoice the respective schools, and they can make payment through GIRO or IFAAS. The amount payable should be credited into the NIE bank account number 518-041272-001.


    Payment by Cheque


    Please submit the cheque together with the application form. Cheque should be made payable to “National Institute of Education” and participant(s)’ name and course(s) clearly indicated on the reverse of the cheque.

    Notification
    NIE will acknowledge receipt of the application form through email within one week. The course placement letter will be emailed to applicants who have been successfully placed in a course and upon course confirmation.


    Instructor
    Please note that NIE reserves the right to replace an instructor for a course if the instructor is unable to teach the course due to unforeseen circumstances. No refund of the course fee will be made to participants.
