The 17th Australasian Research Management Society (ARMS) 2015 Conference was held in Singapore from 29 September to 2 October 2015. Associate Professor Rita Silver of NIE’s English Language & Literature (ELL) Academic Group presented a paper entitled "Research Data Management in Educational Contexts in Singapore: Partnerships, Practices, Policies" along with Dr Dennis Kwek of the Office of Education Research (OER) and Ms Galyna Kogut of ELL. The theme of this year's conference was “Research Management in a Global Context”, which aims to highlight the importance of the profession of research management and administration by presenting international best practices.
Earlier this year, Associate Professor Rita Silver and Dr Jessie Png, Assistant Dean at NIE’s Office of Teacher Education, gave a talk at the International Literacy Association Conference (formerly International Reading Association) at St Louis, Missouri, USA in July 2015. The conference aims to enhance literacy instruction through research and professional development and is one of the top conferences for research on reading and reading instruction. It also provides an excellent platform for researcher-practitioner discussions. The talk was based on a multi-year intervention in a Singapore neighborhood school working with English Language teachers to re-think ways of integrating reading and discussion. Findings were shared and disseminated from the OER projects: OER 9/10 RS and OER 40/12 RS.
Associate Professor Rita Silver was also invited to speak at the 2015 LSIA International Symposium on Reading and Reading Engagement at the Australian Catholic University Leadership Centre, Brisbane, Australia in July 2015. She shared her research findings on research instruction and discussed insights on the Singapore educational system.
