Channel NewsAsia, Talking Point - “Autism: Fitting in or apart?”

In a special episode of Talking Point, the programme focused on Autism in Singapore. Associate Professor Kenneth Poon of NIE’s Early Childhood and Special Needs Education Academic Group and Educational and Cognitive Development Lab, was one of the guests in a four-member panellist discussion that offered their insight on the topic. Assoc Prof Poon gave expert views based on his research in Autism and as a clinical psychologist. He shared that the integration of people with Autism still requires attention because there is no ‘one-size-fits-all solution’. He added that this can be further developed through greater understanding and care for individuals who show symptoms in varying settings or environments such as in school, on national service and within the community. He added that help can be administered at different phases of their lives so as to provide proper career guidance.
