Sunday, 27 November 2016
Our Senior Lecturer, Dr Koh Noi Keng from the Humanities and Social Studies Education (HSSE) Academic Group participated in the Australian Association for Research in Education conference in Melbourne from 27 Nov to 1 Dec 2016 to present her paper on Learning Through a Mobile App, Transforming the Learning Environment through Experiential Learning in Authentic Settings.
She presented on the affordances of harnessing technology and its impact on creating educational effectiveness in schools using an application. It is motivated primarily by the nation’s growing interest in providing students with broad and deep learning for life and the imperative to support the kind of learning environments for generating innovation and productiveness for the knowledge economy in the 21st century.
By using an application that draws on the concept of gamification and game mechanics such as rewarding students with points to motivate them to engage with their classroom academic learning teachers can harness ICT by making interpretations of the transfer of learning and integrating such learning opportunities to apply them in authentic contexts.
