A news clip titled "More schools offer O-level Literature this year" was aired on Channel News Asia's Singapore Tonight on 16 August 2017. The clip highlights innovative ways of teaching Literature in secondary schools and how the number of schools offering upper secondary Literature has increased from 85% in 2015 to 90% in 2016.

Interest in Literature has been contributed by ground-up efforts to promote the subject. One example is the National Schools Literature Festival founded in 2005 by Asst/P Suzanne Choo and a group of teachers. The festival started with 26 schools in 2005 and has grown to 107 schools in 2016.

Dr Dennis Yeo has been a regular keynote speaker at the festival and has helped to inspire in students a passion for the subject over the past five years.

During the festival, students bring Literature to life through debates, dramatizing interpretations of books, and choral performances of poetry among others. Many of these activities have also become incorporated into the culture of Literature teaching within schools.
