A Research Fellow from the Centre of Research for Pedagogy and Practice, Dr Wong Hwei Ming, conducted the Student Self-Assessment Workshop at De La Salle School on 4 November 2015.

The school participated in an NIE study, “A Quantitative and Qualitative Study of Learning and Teaching of Mathematics in Singapore Classrooms (Preparation for Core 3 Research Programme)”. As part of the professional development, over 80 teachers, HODs and school leaders attended the workshop.

Participants were given a better understanding about student self-assessment and its potential benefits to teachers and students, while learning about the variety of student self-assessment strategies. A hands-on approach allowed them to collaborate in co-designing self-assessment for their students’ use.

Ms Lim, a Math HOD, noted that the professional development was relevant, timely, and of great help to their school as they move to the next stage of their holistic assessment journey.
