Dr Wu Longkai Invited to Speak at International Seminar on Digital Learning Environments in Finland

The Digital Learning Environments Seminar was held from 20 to 21 April 2016 at the University of Jyväskylä (JYU), Finland. This seminar was jointly organized by the Faculty of Information Technology of JYU, Finnish Institute for Educational Research and the Keski-Suomen Osaava (Skilful Central Finland).
The seminar was themed “Digital Technology in Learning and Teaching”, and included a wide range of perspectives speeches, panel discussions, workshops and the EduFest Fair.
Dr Wu Longkai, a Research Scientist from the Centre of Research in Pedagogy and Practice, was invited to give a speech on “Driving for 21st Century Learning: The Singapore Experience”. He talked about the NIE research efforts in strengthening the theory-practice nexus and developing new ICT-enabled pedagogies and curriculum. He also discussed how interest-driven learning environment in Singapore school settings has allowed students to strive for creativity, meaning-making and innovative practice that goes beyond rote-learning.
The other speakers consisted of researchers from other countries such as Finland, Chile, Hong Kong, Spain, South Korea and the United Arab Emirates. The audience was made up of policy-makers, developers, as well as teachers from all levels of education from central Finland.
