Thursday, 08 September 2016
Prof Hung’s keynote speech was titled “The Diffusion of Inquiry Based Practices in the Singapore Education System: Navigating eddies of the 21st century”.
In his speech, he suggested that traditional practices can be hybridized with new pedagogies to necessitate epistemic shifts towards valuing disciplinary content and domain-specific skills, as well as a qualitative shift towards transferable understandings and abilities of the 21st century.
Prof Hung drew upon case studies of such exemplar pedagogical innovations already implemented in Singapore schools, and highlighted the successes of innovative and inquiry-based learning which are fundamentally premised on three ways.
