Temasek Foundation, Singapore together with the National Institute of Education (NIE), Singapore and Ministry of National Education (MONE), Indonesia will launch a Master Trainer training programme for Indonesian school leaders.
With Temasek Foundation's funding of S$826,680 (IDR 5.7 billion), this programme will provide school principals and education leaders with new perspectives and essential knowledge and skills in principalship competencies set by MONE, and in so doing elevate the standard of national schools in Indonesia.
This programme is also aligned to MONE's nationwide capability development plan for school leadership that is targeted for completion by 2010. A Memorandum of Agreement between MONE and NIE will be signed at a launch ceremony held in Jakarta, Indonesia on Monday, 22 June 2009. The programme for the ceremony can be found in Annexe A.
NIE will train 120 Master Trainers, consisting of senior school principals and trainers from 30 Education Quality Assurance Institutes (EQAIs) across Indonesia. EQAIs are decentralised training institutions under the direction of the Ministry in Jakarta responsible for training and improving the standard of education in their respective provinces.
These Master Trainers selected by MONE, will commence their 10-day specialised training in Singapore starting on 23 June 2009. During the training, they will gain new knowledge and perspectives on school leadership. Three appointed MONE Project Coordinators will accompany them to gain relevant grounding in the concepts introduced during the training programme at NIE. Please refer to Annexe B for information on this educational leadership programme.
Upon completion of the programme, these Master Trainers will return to conduct training to other principals in the 30 EQAIs. As the Master Trainers begin to share and cascade their knowledge and skills with more school principals in their respective districts, it is anticipated that some 27,000 schools principals across Indonesia will eventually benefit from the knowledge exchange by 2010.
Speaking at the launch ceremony, Mr Goh Geok Khim, Chairman of Temasek Foundation said, "Education is a key focus area for Temasek Foundation. The foundation is pleased to support this initiative, which will help build capacities in school principals and education leaders to meet the needs and challenges of school leadership in Indonesia".
