Leaders in Education Programme Graduation Dinner 2009

Leaders in Education Programme Graduation Dinner 2009

Date
Friday, 16 October 2009

One project seeks to transform teaching practices by integrating Web 2.0 social media platforms into the classroom to create a contemporary Classroom 2.0; another project serves to identify student leadership qualities to enhance the development of student leaders; and a third project encourages students to be innovative and nurtures them into lifelong learners and creative thinkers.

These are just some of the projects developed by participants of the Leaders in Education Programme (LEP), a programme for senior educators.

The LEP 2009 participants, comprising 43 local and foreign senior educators, will receive their certificates at a graduation dinner to be held on 16 October 2009 at The Regent Singapore Hotel. Dr Ng Eng Hen, Minister for Education and Second Minister for Defence will be gracing this event.

Conducted over a six-month period by the National Institute of Education (NIE), Singapore, the LEP is a full-time executive programme for talented educators selected by the Ministry of Education (MOE), Singapore for principalship. The LEP focuses on innovation and the creation of new knowledge, provoking the participants' thinking through a series of challenging experiences. This includes an industrial attachment, working on innovation in the school setting, seminars with international experts and an overseas learning experience. The exposure serves to raise the participants' leadership skills to new levels and allow them to  lead their schools in more meaningful and impactful ways.

In the nine years since it started, the LEP has attracted unparalleled international attention. NIE has welcomed government ministers and a host of overseas educators to observe this pioneering work in leadership. The Institute is now actively involved in offering other countries this platform to build and develop their leadership capabilities.

The parties involved in this collaborative effort include NIE academics, MOE staff, steward principals, mentoring principals, cluster superintendents as well as industry leaders.

The programme for the evening is at Annexe A. The list of prize winners is at Annexe B and synopses for three of the innovation projects presented by the participants are at Annexe C.
