MANAGEMENT AND LEADERSHIP IN SCHOOLS GRADUATION CEREMONY JULY 2009 ON MONDAY, 27 JULY 2009, 3.00PM AT LECTURE THEATRE 1, BLOCK 6, NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF EDUCATION, 1 NANYANG WALK, SINGAPORE

A total of 125 teachers will receive their Management and Leadership in Schools (MLS) certificates on Monday, 27 July 2009, upon completion of their head of department training (HOD) at the National Institute of Education (NIE), Singapore. Gracing the ceremony is Mdm Low Khah Gek, Director, Curriculum Planning and Development, Ministry of Education (MOE).

MLS is a four-month programme for departmental heads and school leaders who may in time assume significant managerial responsibilities in schools. Managed by NIE's Graduate Programmes and Research Office, this innovative programme prepares HODs to be exemplary leaders, people managers, and experts in teaching and learning. Besides addressing issues and technologies impacting education, a major part of the MLS programme focuses on team learning and curriculum innovation. Upon completion of the programme, the graduands will be ready to lead initiatives in curriculum advances and take their schools to new levels of achievement.

Key features of the MLS programme are: Diversity of learning experiences designed to generate new knowledge; designing an innovative curriculum for schools; flexibility in tailoring an individual programme by selecting modules that are of direct use; exposure to the insights of senior figures from the world outside education; and availability of elective modules conducted at NIE to enhance HODs'  knowledge and skill sets.

The programme and list of MLS award winners are detailed in Annexe A and B respectively.
