Associate Professor Kelly Tang from the Visual and Performing Arts Academic Group has received the nation's highest honour given to arts practitioners for his contribution to Singapore's cultural landscape. In November 2011, Assoc Prof Kelly Tang received the award at a ceremony at the Istana.

Republic of Singapore President, Mr Tony Tan Keng Yam, presented the medallions to theatre practitioner Mr Atin Amat, lyricist Mr Yusnor Ef, visual artist Mr Lim Yew Kuan and composer Assoc Prof Kelly Tang. They join a select group of 100 artists who have received the award since 1979. It was noted that Assoc Prof Tang has been lecturing aspiring teachers at the National Institute of Education since 1995. But he is no stranger to the thousands of students who have performed his creations at the Singapore Youth Festival.
