NIE DIRECTOR'S RACE 2008 - A RACE FOR SPECIAL PEOPLE ON FRIDAY, 22 AUGUST 2008, 4.30PM AT LECTURE THEATRE 1, BLOCK 6, NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF EDUCATION, 1 NANYANG WALK, SINGAPORE
For the third consecutive year, the National Institute of Education (NIE), Singapore will be organising the Director's Race 2008 on Friday, 22 August 2008 from 4.30pm to 9.00pm. This year, the fund-raising event is in aid of the Singapore Children's Society. About 600 participants will be joining in this annual fund-raising event.
NIE develops education professionals with the knowledge and skills of teaching as well as with the heart to serve and care for those in need. It is with this spirit of care and service that NIE has embarked on the annual event of Director's Race 2008.
Through this NIE community effort, the Director's Race supports the mission in celebrating life by bringing hope and love to our children. As a community, we want to promote the well-being of our children and youth of all races and religions, protecting, nurturing and guiding them, especially those who are abused, neglected, and/or from dysfunctional families.
In conjunction with this event, the NIE Bachelor of Arts (BA) Club led by NIE student teachers will also be organising a fundraiser entitled 'Dare to Dream'. Using paper hearts as an analogy for a giving heart, each dollar collected per heart will carry a message and a wish for the children at the Singapore Children's Society. This activity will translate into an artistic collage that will be presented to the beneficiary at the end of the race.
Participants can take part and register in the following three events:
- Director's Fun Run (Individual) - 2.4km run starts at 4.30pm outside Lecture Theatre 1;
- Director's Relay (Team of six runners) - 2.4km relay starts at 5.40pm outside Lecture Theatre 1; and
- Director's Challenge (Five members per team) - This is not a running race but an interesting new event consisting of activities for teams to put their teamwork, talents and wits to the test. Briefing of the challenge will be at 4.45pm; the challenge starts at 5.40pm.
Alongside these events, the evening within the heart of education at NIE will be buzzing with fun and laughter from entertainment led by the NIE community, there will be fringe and carnival activities and stage performances.
A highlight of the fringe activities is the 'Endangered Animal Parade'. Children and adults will be dressed in creative costumes that represent endangered animal species. The unique proposition of this parade is that the costumes have been designed and made from recyclable materials.
This parade will join the participants in the Director's Fun Run from 4.30pm to 5.15pm. This parade aims to educate youths and raise the awareness on the endangered animal species in Singapore and other parts of the world.
