Friday, 20 January 2012
The National Institute of Education (NIE) welcomed its first batch of 28 graduands from its part-time Bachelor of Education degree programme at an investiture ceremony on Friday afternoon.
The three-and-a-half-year programme took in its first students in July 2008. It was designed for non-graduate primary school teachers currently in service.
Education Minister Heng Swee Keat, who was guest of honour, commended the 28 graduands - some of whom have taught for over 20 years - for being role models of life-long learning.
A total of 320 newly-qualified teachers also received their certificates for completing their diploma or degree programmes in education at NIE.
