OER Meets with Education Team from Oxford University Press
Tuesday, 16 February 2016
The Office of Education Research (OER) is pleased to host representatives from the Oxford University Press when they recently visited Singapore from 25 to 29 January 2016.
The team comprised Liz Free, Head of Professional Development, Derry Richardson, Senior Professional Development Leader, Sue Lowndes, Professional Development Leader and Jo Issa, Publisher.
They visited Nan Chiau Primary School, a FutureSchool which has been collaborating closely with NIE researchers on numerous information and communications technology projects.
Some NIE researchers also shared their ongoing research with the team. To round up their visit to NIE, the UK visitors also had a fruitful meeting with OER Associate Dean (Education Research) Prof David Hung, OER Assistant Dean (School Partnerships) and Head of Research of the Centre for Research in Pedagogy and Practice Dr Tan Liang See and OER Assistant Dean (Research Communications) Dr Dennis Kwek.
They discussed the state of education and education research in both Singapore and the UK. The Oxford University Press team remarked that the research done by NIE on the Singapore education system is “incredibly impressive” because of its volume and depth. Also, they like how research findings are translated for education policymakers, who can then take them into consideration for their policy work.
The trip has been an enriching one for the UK visitors, and they plan to come back to Singapore again later this year for school visits.
