In response to an earlier article that advocates “refinement rather than reforms”, NIE Learning Sciences Lab Senior Research Scientist, Dr Wong Lung Hsiang’s article argues that despite worldwide prestigious status in the past, Singapore’s education system must remain adaptive in order to address the challenges of the knowledge-based economics in the 21st century. Dr Wong agrees that the authority should adopt a cautious attitude over substantial reforms, and it is perhaps the academics’ responsibility to develop and research on alternative policies (such as new assessment modes). However, in a long run, the ever changing landscape of the world would not pause itself and wait for Singapore to reform.
