Run for a worthy cause at the NIE Director's Race 2010

Date
Friday, 15 October 2010

More than 500 participants will run for a worthy cause at the 4th NIE Director’s Race on 15 October 2010 as part of NIE’s 60th teacher education anniversary celebration. It is a signature fund-raising charity run where the NIE and NTU communities including staff, student teachers, alumni and partners raise funds for an adopted charitable organization. This year, our beneficiary is the Society for the Physically Disabled (SPD). The funds raised will go towards the SPD Education Programme’s Tuition Subsidy Fund.

The highlights of the event include having past NIE Directors, former and current NIE colleagues, partners and friends of NIE to join in the celebration as we show our appreciation for their contributions and support as well as the unveiling of the landscape sculpture to commemorate the Youth Olympic Games Village Square in NIE.

NIE nurtures and develops educators with the knowledge and skills of teaching for the 21st century as well as cultivating strong values of care and love for those in need. It is with this NIE’s spirit of care and service that the inaugural NIE Director’s Race was first embarked in 2006. Since then, three charitable organizations, the Singapore Heart Foundation, MINDS Jurong Gardens School and the Singapore Children’s Society have not only been enriched in ways of gifting but the universal bonds of friendship have also been strengthened.

Mr Winston Ngan, Asst Honorary Treasurer, SPD said “There are many children with disabilities who can accomplish despite their disabilities if given the support. We are therefore grateful that NIE has raised funds to support physically disabled students through the tuition subsidy scheme to enable them cope with their studies. Doing well in their education will certainly improve their chances to a better future of self-reliance and independence and help them realise their potential.“
