Singapore Cultural Tour for MATCIL Students (2017)
Saturday, 15 April 2017
With the strong support from the National Heritage Board, Asian Languages and Cultures of NIE organized a Singapore cultural tour for MA students enrolled in the Teaching Chinese as International Language (MATCIL) programme 2017.
On 15th April morning, more than thirty students and faculty staff from the National Institute of Education set off on the tour in two groups. Following the trail of the tour guides, the students began the 2-hour historical tour to Fort Canning Park, where they learned about the early history and culture of Singapore, as well as local plants and spices. The group then proceeded to the Singapore River to learn about the modern development of Singapore and experience her ever-changing landscape. The students ended the fun-filled tour with a group photo with the Merlion, the landmark of Singapore.
Many students expressed that such experiential learning is fun and interesting. They even indicated that they would definitely participate in similar programmes in future, if possible.
