Texan Education and Industry Leaders Call on NIE

Associate Professor Liu Woon Chia (Dean, TE) and Professor Low Ee Ling (Head, SPAQ) co-hosted the 38-strong delegation from Educate Texas
Educate Texas, a public-private organisation in Texas, US, led a 38-strong delegation to visit NIE on 20 October 2016. Head/SPAQ and Dean/TE co-hosted the visitors on behalf of NIE Director. Educate Texas visited NIE in association with the Office of Colorado Senator Mike Johnston (D-Denver) and was given an overview of NIE, briefed on initial teacher preparation programmes and toured an NIE collaborative classroom and the NIE library. The delegation comprised members who hold important roles in their education system, ranging from presidents and CEOs of education-related organisations to superintendents, deans of schools of education, and education editors and writers.
A writer from The Dallas Morning News wrote about her recent visit to Singapore to study our education system. Lauding Singapore to be a country that Texas will learn from, the article spoke highly of Singapore intentionally choosing only the best candidates to be in the teaching profession and its commitment to preparing teachers well.
