Visit to NSSE by Korean science teachers

Date
Monday, 19 January 2015

On 19 January 2015, a group of 16 Korean primary science teachers and professors paid a visit to NIE and NSSE. Their aim was to learn more about science teaching for gifted or highly-able learners, which they felt that Singapore had a lot to offer. They were hosted by Dr Tan Kok Siang and A/P Lee Yew Jin on that afternoon: Kok Siang conducted a workshop on "Reflective Learning in School Science" that involved participants boiling rice grains to explore the process of teacher reflection. Yew Jin showed some videos of local students launching PET-bottle rockets and then facilitated a lively discussion about the importance of balancing minds-on with hands-on learning. The contingent from Gangwon Province also paid a courtesy call on Head NSSE, A/P Yan Yaw Kai. Our Korean visitors definitely brought home many fond memories as well as creative ideas for teaching science from their visit to NSSE!
