Introduction

The Teacher Professional Development (TPD) Section of the Graduate Programmes & Research Office provides professional development courses for serving teachers.

We have 6 main foci

  • Upgrade content knowledge of teachers
  • Update teachers with pedagogical innovations in subject teaching
  • Equip teachers with new competencies in response to societal needs and demands
  • Keep abreast of new developments and initiatives in education
  • Educate teachers with research and management skills
  • Enhance their teaching effectiveness through life-long learning (new addition)

We adopt the following strategies used in our delivery of courses/ programmes

  • Provide short in-service courses
  • Encourage non-graduate teachers and graduate teachers to embark on life-long learning and in the process be rewarded with higher certification
  • Encourage participation in research activities
  • Source outside expertise to meet certain needs

We have partnerships with other bodies

  • Plan and prepare programmes through discussion with Staff Training Branch officers, cluster school superintendents and principals of schools
  • Organise market-driven courses that cater to the needs of teachers and society and taking into consideration the constant changing landscapes of the education industry
