Process
All grant applications, submitted in response to a Request for Proposals (RFP), are reviewed by an OER-appointed panel of external reviewers. In the further interest of academic rigour and prudence, grant applications exceeding $500,000 are evaluated by an International Advisory Committee, comprising eminent scholars from renowned international universities. In addition, grant applications submitted by staff involved in any part of the review process are assessed independently by the Education Research Review Advisory Panel.
Grant applications of varying values are then further assessed and approved by the OER Education Research Committee (ERC), NIE ERC and MOE ERC.

Ethics
The goals of research, while important, should never be permitted to override the safety and well-being of research subjects and participants. To this end, all research conducted by NIE faculty and candidates enrolled in higher degrees by research must be reviewed and approved by the NTU Institutional Review Board (IRB). This requirement applies irrespective of the type of review requested by the researcher ie exemption, expedited or full.
Please read the NTU IRB guidelines carefully before applying for ethics clearance. All ethics guidelines and application forms are available on the IRB website. You may contact the IRB Secretariat at irb@ntu.edu.sg or (65) 6592 2495 if you have any further questions.
All programme courses that collect data from human subjects and projects by course candidates (pre-service and Masters by coursework / dissertation) will be reviewed by the respective NIE-convened Ethics Review Committees of the various academic groups and programme offices, which approve applications qualifying for exemption. However, applications requiring an expedited or full ethics review will be referred to the NTU IRB through NIE's Office of Education Research. The flowchart titled Ethics Review Process for NIE Programmes, Student and Faculty Research provides more details.
