  • I am a psychologist and a clinical supervisor registered with the Singapore Register of Psychologists with over 15 years of experience working with children with developmental disabilities. I received my training as a clinical psychologist at the University of Queensland in 2000. I later obtained a Ph.D. in Education from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a focus on early intervention and autism spectrum disorders in 2005.

    I am a member of the faculty at the Early Childhood and Special Needs Education Academic Group, NIE. I am currently based at the Education and Cognitive Development Laboratory of the Office of Educational Research where I lead the disability research strand and serve as Principal Investigator of the Ministry of Social and Family Development commissioned study Factors Associated wtih Child and family outcomes of EIPIC in Singapore (FACES). I also serve as the co-convenor for both Early Childhood as well as Disability research at the Office of Educational Research. I am particularly interested in research that makes a difference in the lives of the participants.

    Apart from my work at the National Institute of Education, I serve as a member on the board of governance of Rainbow Centre, Singapore and as a member of the Panel of Advisors to the Junenile Court. I have contributed to various national level committees such as the Enabling Masterplan for Persons with Disabilities 2012-2017 and the Academy of Mediciine, Singapore-Ministry of Health Clinical Practice Guidelines for Preschoolers with Autism Spectrum Disorders.

    At an international level, I also serve as a board member of the International Association for the Scientific Study of Intellectual Disabilities (IASSID) Academy. I serve on the editorial boards including the Communication Disorders Quarterly, Infants and Young Children, and the International Journal of School and Educational Psychology.

  • I have taught a large number of courses covering a broad range of topics ranging from research method courses to those teaching content or practice areas. The approach to teaching varies from compact three-day workshops, full semester length courses, small-group seminars, and large lectures.
