eduLab Funding Programme

About eduLab Programme

eduLab is a key programme for teachers, researchers, and MOE HQ officers to develop ICT innovations for learning that can potentially be adopted or adapted by different schools across the system. eduLab began as an MOE-NIE initiative supported by the National Research Foundation (NRF) in 2011. From 2016 onwards, new eduLab projects are funded by MOE and administered by the Office of Education Research (OER), NIE.

About eduLab Projects

An eduLab project must involve 2 or more partner schools (primary, secondary or JC level) to be completed within a 2 to 3 years' time frame. It must feature an ICT-Based Innovation which supports teaching and learning practices in the classroom and beyond with a view towards wide adoption in a sustainable manner as an end goal. Teachers involved in the project should play a key role in co-developing and testing the innovation, co-designing lesson packages and carrying out school-based research activities.

Consistent with 21st Century competencies, the ideas for an eduLab project must involve one or more curricular subjects at the Primary, Secondary or Junior College levels, satisfying at least 1 of the following thematic focus, namely ICT for Self-Directed Learning, ICT for Collaborative Learning and ICT in Assessment.

All eduLab projects will be published and shared with schools across the system.

Who Can Apply

The eduLab is available to interested educators from MOE funded Primary Schools, Secondary Schools and Junior Colleges.

Academic staff from the Singapore Institutes of Higher Learning (IHLs), i.e. NIE (including MOE secondees), NUS, NTU, SMU, SIT, SUTD, UniSIM and polytechnics and ITEs, can also apply for eduLab Fund, provided their Proposed Innovations are in one or more curricular subjects at the Primary, Secondary or Junior College level.

Grant Application Process

OER manages the eduLab Call. The application, review and approval of eduLab projects will mirror the existing processes for ERFP projects.

The proposals are reviewed by an OER-appointed panel of external academic and MOE reviewers.

OER announces its Request for Proposals (RFP) every April and Oct of the year and the close of submission is July of the year and January of the following year respectively. Grant applications of varying values are further assessed and approved by the eduLab Evaluation Panel, NIE Education Research Committee (ERC) and MOE ERC.

The 18th RFP is a full call for proposals but the subsequent 19th RFP will be a limited call. The limited eduLab call in the 19th RFP is for new Tier 3 projects and resubmissions from the 18th RFP. In view of the limited call for the 19th RFP, interested applicants are encouraged to put in their proposals in the 18th RFP.
