Submission of Medical Certificates (MCs)

For the attention of Student Teachers in the Postgraduate Diploma, Diploma, BA (Education)/BSc (Education) & Bachelor of Education Programmes

Student teachers who are absent from class must contact lecturers/tutors in charge to explain the reasons for their absence not later than two working days from the date of absence. If they cannot attend classes for any reason apart from medical leave, they will be required to apply for leave of absence on the prescribed leave application form available from the NIE Portal.

Those who are absent because they have been granted medical leave are required to show their original medical certificate to the lecturers/tutors concerned. This should be done before they submit the medical certificate to Student Services Centre (Block 3B, Student Hub, Level 1).

Following feedback received, with effect from January 2006 semester, student teachers do not need to make copies of their medical certificates for lecturers/tutors.  Instead, they will just need to show their original medical certificate to the lecturers/tutors concerned.  This should be done before they drop the MC in the drop-box at SSC.

In order that student teachers have sufficient time to do this, the deadline for submission of the original medical certificate to Student Services Centre (Block 3B, Student Hub, Level 1) is 2 weeks from the date of issue of the medical certificate. Beyond this deadline, if no information has been forwarded to the lecturers/tutors regarding the absence, notice of absence from class/non-submission of assignment will be issued.

Procedure for Submission of MCs

Paste your Original MC on the Medical Certificate form (portrait format) and drop them in DROP-BOX at Student Services Centre (Block 3B, Student Hub, Level 1).

NOTE: Student teachers submitting Child MC must complete the Leave Application form available in the NIE Portal and submit a copy of the child’s birth certificate if it is their first time application.
