Initial Teacher Preparation (ITP) programmes in NIE prepare you for a career as a teacher. The programme develops student teachers’ knowledge and skills require of teachers to competently meet the demands and challenges of a dynamic teaching career.
The ITP programmes offered at NIE are:
- Bachelor of Arts (Education) / Bachelor of Science (Education) / Bachelor of Education
- Diploma programmes
- Postgraduate Diploma in Education programmes
Each of the above programmes builds specific knowledge and skills for teaching at the primary or secondary level.

General Admission Procedures for Ministry of Education (MOE) Sponsored Students
- Applications for admission to the programmes leading to the Bachelor of Arts (Education) and Bachelor of Science (Education) must be submitted online through the Nanyang Technological University website at http://www.ntu.edu.sg. For polytechnic diploma holders, the admission exercise is normally held in February while in the case of GCE 'A' level holders, the admission exercise is normally held in March. The programme commences in July each year.
- Applications by university degree holders for admission into the programme leading to the Postgraduate Diploma in Education must be made online through the MOE website at http://www.moe.gov.sg/teach/. Similarly, applications by GCE 'A' Level or polytechnic diploma holders for admission into the programmes leading to the Diploma in Education, Diploma in Physical Education and Diploma in Art/Music Education are made online through the MOE website at http://www.moe.gov.sg/careers/teach/. All programmes commence in July each year. Although applications are accepted throughout the year, it is advisable to submit applications at least three months prior to the intake for which you wish to be considered.
- Applications by GCE 'O' Level holders for the Diploma in Art/Music/Home Economics Education Programmes must be made on prescribed application forms obtainable from MOE. Applications for these programmes are normally invited in March each year.
NOTE: NO STUDENT MAY PURSUE CONCURRENTLY ANY COURSE/PROGRAMME OF STUDY AT ANOTHER INSTITUTION OF LEARNING WHEN ENROLLED AS A STUDENT AT THIS INSTITUTE.

International students seeking employment with the schools of Singapore can visit the MOE website at http://www.moe.gov.sg/careers/teach/ for more information on teaching as a career in Singapore.
International students may also seek admission into NIE's programmes through the Full-Fee Paying scheme. Information on the Full-Fee Paying scheme is enclosed in the FAQ on Full-Fee Paying scheme.
Admission Information for Full-Fee Paying Students
Full-fee paying students are not bonded to the MOE and pay full tuition fees.
The application window for the July 2012 intake is currently open from now till 15 March 2012.
Physical Proficiency Test
Applications into any of the Physical Education programmes must take and pass the Physical Proficiency Test (PPT) to be considered for entry. Click here for more information on the PPT.
