Student Activities & Development

NIE encourages all student teachers to participate actively in as many institution-wide/university-wide activities as possible.

Counselling

The NIE Student Advising and Counselling Service is available to student teachers to support and enhance their personal, academic, and professional development through advisory, consultative and psychological services.

A pool of staff advisers is appointed to provide both academic and personal guidance to student teachers who may seek their help; and to monitor academically weaker student teachers identified for systematic guidance.

The Psychology Clinic on the NIE campus provides psychological services and counselling for student teachers. More information is available on the Psychology Clinic's webpage.

Trainee Development Programmes

A number of service-learning projects, both at home and abroad, are made available for student teachers to participate in. Projects such as these are aimed at cultivating strength of character, leadership skills, teamwork, innovation and enterprise. Talks, workshops and groups of a developmental nature run over the academic year focus on current issues that beginning teachers face on campus - for example, stress management, relating with others, coping with hostel life, coping with studies etc.
