Full Professor & Centre Director (Centre for Research in Pedagogy and Practice)

  • The Office of Education Research (OER) has led efforts to spearhead programmes grounded in the principles of advancing research, development and innovation at NIE. OER is committed to providing the resources and support systems – through the governance, monitoring, quality assurance and dissemination of education research – that will produce high-quality education research with impact on policy and practice.
    One of two research centres in OER, the Centre for Research in Pedagogy and Practice (CRPP), was established in 2003 to be an education research centre of excellence in pedagogy and practice. There are currently three strategic and five priority research areas in CRPP, namely:

    The OER is looking for a Full Professor and Centre Director to head the Centre for Research in Pedagogy and Practice (CRPP). The incumbent oversees and manages the research programmes and agenda. The incumbent will report to the Dean of OER. 


  • Doctoral degree;
    At least five years of experience in running education research programmes and/or research centre of excellence and program administration;
    Ability to lead a large and diverse team of researchers to achieve organizational objectives through positive and collaborative approaches;
    Proven track record of successful grant writing ability through attainment of funding through a competitive peer-reviewed process;
    Ability to identify and capitalise on opportunities to grow revenue or funding;
    Ability to develop a strategic plan including operationalising the strategy in the research centre;
    Experience in overseeing or managing the operations of an education research centre or laboratory;
    Experience in leading an independent research program in education research, development, and translation;
    Track record of high quality publications including a demonstrated capability to build collaborative research partnerships locally, regionally and internationally;
    Familiar with current theories and practice of education research in general and in-depth knowledge of one of OER’s five research priority areas;
    Outstanding professional, cross-cultural communication and interpersonal skills; and
    Experience working with governmental and other stakeholders.
  • Research
    Oversee and manage the research programmes and agenda of OER’s three strategic and  five priority research areas;
    Lead a large and diverse team of researchers to secure research funding and achieve organizational objectives through positive and collaborative approaches;
    Manage and work with the Programme Directors to plan, develop, refine and implement research programmes;
    Identify, promote and contribute resources to developing the Research Centre’s strengths and managing its portfolio;
    Plan and execute research that generate impact to governmental and other stakeholders;

    Capacity Building
    Develop research capacities and engage in rigorous education research that informs policy thinking and advance theory and practices;
    Provide leadership on the development of benchmarks for the performance of the Research Centre;

    Dissemination & Engagement
    Forge and maintain external relations, promote the Research Centre to external bodies and  enhance its reputation, profile and influence in Singapore, regional and international forums;
    Actively develop the Research Centre’s international academic profile and enhance its international recruitment and partnership development in line with the Research Centre’s and NIE, NTU’s internationalization strategy;
    Ensure close links are maintained with the relevant professional, statutory and regulatory bodies that are closely related to the Research Centre’s research focus area;
    Act as an Ambassador for the Research Centre in raising its profile externally including internationally and embodying good practice;
    Represent the Research Centre at key local, regional and international stakeholders’ meetings so as to present the professional viewpoints of the Research Centre;
    Support and promote knowledge transfer between the Research Centre, NIE, NTU and non-academic users of research

    Responsible for effective communication and full staff engagement including awareness and application of NIE, NTU policies and procedures;
    Achieve income generation targets from research funding agencies and ensure that the Research Centre capitalizes upon funding initiatives from Singapore in furtherance of its research programmes.
