Research Scientist in Centre for Research in Child Development (Office of Education Research)

  • The Centre for Research in Child Development (CRCD) within the Office of Education Research (OER) at the National Institute of Education, Singapore, is looking for a Research Scientist to join our research focus area in Bilingual Development. This thematic area comprises empirical research associated with children’s and youth’s development of bilingual and biliteracy competencies. We are seeking candidates with expertise in bilingual language development, second language learning and psycholinguistics. Those with knowledge of linguistics in English and Malay or Tamil are preferred. Candidates with appropriate qualifications and relevant research experience are encouraged to apply for the three-year position (renewable subject to funding approval). Successful applicants will work with a team of researchers at CRCD.

    • PhD in a relevant discipline (e.g., psychology, linguistics, child development, educational psychology);
    • A passion for, and a track record of, research in the field of bilingualism or second language learning;
    • Proficiency in statistical and psychometric concepts, analysis, and interpretation;
    • Excellent communication (verbal and written English) and inter-personal skills;
    • Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Successful candidates will collaborate with colleagues within CRCD on pre-existing research projects focusing on the field of bilingualism and child development. In addition, they would be expected to bid for competitive research grants, and to participate in research of strategic importance to CRCD, OER and the Ministry of Education. Candidates will also be expected to contribute to administrative service, teaching, and/or supervision of students.
