Senior Research Scientist/Research Scientist in Centre for Research in Child Development

  • The National Institute of Education has established a Centre for Research in Child Development, Office of Education Research. The Centre will conduct studies focusing on factors that influence the course of development from early to middle childhood. We are looking for Research Scientists and Senior Research Scientists to join our efforts. We are interested in candidates with expertise in the development of executive functioning, self-regulatory, social-emotional, linguistic, and mathematical skills.


    • Ph.D. in a relevant discipline (i.e., cognitive-developmental psychology, developmental science, educational neuroscience); 
    • Minimum 5 years postdoctoral experience for candidates interested in the senior research scientist position;
    • Demonstrated ability to lead a research team and mentor junior research staff for candidates interested in the senior research scientist position;
    • Demonstrable track record in the following areas:
      -High quality publications (please provide information on the quality and impact of your work based on citations and ranking of journal publications);
      -Planning and writing research projects that are funded through competitive peer-reviewed funding processes - this is particularly important for candidates interested in the senior research scientist position;
      -Independence in research (i.e. senior authorship/sole authorship of high-quality publications and invited presentations at conferences);
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills  (spoken and written English); 
    • Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
    • Collaborate with colleagues to design and implement the centre’s research programme
    • Take a leading role in the development of research projects and programmes and in seeking and pursuing appropriate external funding;
    • Disseminate the outcomes of research in peer-reviewed publications of international standing;
    • Manage and conduct administrative and management tasks associated with your programme of research; 
    • Supervise Master’s and Ed.D. students;
    • Contribute to the supervision of PhD students; 
    • Participate in research of strategic importance to NIE; 
    • Participate in the wider research and service activities of NIE.
