Virtual Reality Application Developer (Natural Sciences and Science Education) [Contract Position]

  • The National Institute of Education invites suitable applications for the position of one full time Virtual Reality Application Developer on a 12-month contract at the Natural Sciences and Science Education Academic Group

Project Title: Diving into the Virtual World of Organic Chemistry

    Project Introduction:
Organic Chemistry is a sub-discipline of chemistry that involves the study of the structure, properties and reactions of organic compounds. One of the major difficulties in learning organic chemistry is in visualizing and understanding the three-dimensional nature of molecules. Most students lack the required skills to visualize the molecule in three-dimensional and therefore have great difficulty in relating the two dimensional drawings used in textbooks and classroom chalkboards drawings to their three-dimensional structures. This project involves the development of content that works on Oculus, a Virtual Reality (VR) platform in order to help students to better visualize three-dimensional representations of stereoisomers and reaction mechanism of organic chemistry.
