Project Title: e-SDCL: An ICT-supported learning environment to facilitate meaningful, contextualised and seamless Chinese Language learning journeys in and out of classroom

    Project Introduction:
This study aims to pilot and develop a techno-pedagogical Chinese Language (CL) learning solution, e-SDCL (e-Self-Directed Chinese language Learning), targeting Primary 2-3 students. The intention is to nurture self-directed and effective learning, the ability of applying vocabulary and sentence structures, and the ability of producing paragraphs to express their personal voices, and to develop genuine communicative skills. The ICT-mediated solution consists of two interweaving components:

    1) In-class meaningful, contextualised explicit instructions of words, sentences and paragraphs: With the aid of appropriate ICT tools, the recursive learning process would begin with textbook reading, followed by various scaffolded linguistic knowledge learning activities, which will later link to sentence composing and paragraph writing.

    2) Learning by doing in authentic settings adhering to the seamless learning approach: Students may either make use of school- or family member-loaned mobile devices or school/home laptop computers to create social media with real-life photos and captions in Chinese –a process of interpreting their daily encounter by associating it with the vocabulary and sentence structures learnt in component 1.
