  • The National Institute of Education invites suitable applications for the position of Research Assistant on a 3-month contract at the Office of Education Research. This contract may be renewed. 

    Project Title: Translational Specifications of Neural-Informed Game-Based Interventions for Mathematical Cognitive Development of Low-Progress Learners

    Project Introduction: A team of researchers from NIE and mathematics specialists from MOE, in collaboration with experts from University College London, UK, is embarking on a research study that aims to narrow mathematical achievement gaps within the Singapore education system.

    We aim to identify the characteristics and causes why learners persistently perform poorly in math, particularly those who continue to struggle despite current established behavioral and cognitive intervention approaches in schools. 

    Applicants are sought for short-term Research Assistants to assist with data collection and instrument administration for a characterization study of low progress mathematics learners in Singapore primary schools.

  • Essential

    • Possess a Bachelor’s degree with preferably an emphasis in one of the following: Psychology, Education or related disciplines
    • Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills, and able to interact with primary school learners
    • Excellent organisational skills, ability to take initiative and to work flexibly, as part of a team, as well as independently with minimum supervision


    • Familiar with the Singapore education system
    • Prior experience or knowledge of administering quantitative and/or qualitative instruments 
    • Prior experience or knowledge of statistical methods
    • Administer tests and research instruments for primary school learners 
    • Collect research data in schools using video and audio equipment, and field notes taking 
    • Manage research data and project documentation at the assigned research site
    • Liaise with research participants, teachers and school leaders
    • Perform other tasks as assigned by the Principal Investigator and Co-Principal Investigators
