Research Assistant/Associate (Office of Education Research) [NRF2016-SOL002-003]

  • The National Institute of Education invites suitable applications for the position of Research Assistant/ Research Associate on a 12-month contract at the Office of Education Research.

    Project Title:
    Translational Specifications of Neural-Informed Game-Based Interventions
    for Mathematical Cognitive Development of Low-Progress Learners

    Project Introduction:
    A team of researchers from NIE and mathematics specialists from MOE, in collaboration with experts from University College London, UK, is embarking on a 3-year research study (2018 – 2020) that aims to narrow the mathematical achievement gaps within the Singapore education system. Applicants are sought for Research Assistants/Associates to work on a characterization study, looking at both behavioral and neural measures, of low progress mathematics learners in Singapore primary schools.

  • Essential

    Possess a Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree with preferably an emphasis in the one of the following: Psychology, Neuroscience, Learning Sciences, Education or related disciplines; and experience in Project management
    Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
    Excellent interpersonal and organisational skills, ability to take initiative and to work flexibly, as part of a team, as well as independently with minimum supervision

    Applicants with aspirations to pursue a career in education, particularly in the areas of educational neuroscience or related fields
    Familiar with the Singapore education system
    Interest in the use of educational games for learning
    Prior experience or knowledge of statistical methods such as latent growth modelling
    Prior experience or knowledge of statistical methods used in neuroimaging research
    Prior experience in project management with procurement experience

  • (1) Research work:

    Administer tests and research instruments for primary school learners
    Collect research data in schools using video and audio equipment, and field notes taking
    Manage research data and project documentations
    Contribute to data analysis and production of research reports including literature reviews
    Liaise with research participants and other stakeholders
    Perform other tasks as assigned by the Principal Investigator and Co-Principal Investigators

    (2) Project management work:
    Provide administrative support to the project 
    Coordinate procurement and liaise with vendors/suppliers, and where necessary, commissioning of equipment/services to support the project’s activities
    Liaise with key stakeholders for project collaborations and establish standard procedure for project
    Monitor and control project’s expenditure
    Plan, implement and monitor the project status to ensure all tasks are completed within timeline
